In 1990 Wilson penned a follow-up entitled Supreme Faith: Someday We'll Be Together that covers Wilson's life since 1970. Dreamgirl covers the Diana Ross-led years of the group. The title of the book is a reference to Dreamgirls, a 1981 Broadway musical loosely based on the lives and careers of the Supremes. It was a New York Times Best Seller for months, and remains one of the best-selling rock-and-roll autobiographies of all time. Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme is a 1986 autobiography that features the memoirs of Mary Wilson, one of the founding members of Motown singing trio The Supremes. ![]() ![]() ![]() That alone isn’t the problem: growing up, I would have loved to see more families like mine represented, and not just because of me and my disabilities. ![]() This is a book written by an author who has an autistic child, but is not autistic herself, and admits that the inspiration for writing the book was her non-autistic daughter. ![]() This is a book for youth who have siblings with disabilities, or maybe friends, cousins, other people in their lives. And that’s the part of the book that scares me. Trying to connect with the new kids but just never getting it right. I remember being her age, the oldest sibling, trying to fit in at school and not being able to. There was a small of me that wanted to connect with Catherine. As readers, we follow Catherine during her summer vacation, as she gets to know Jason better, misses her best friend who is away for the entire break, and attempts to find a new friend in the girl who just moved next door. While both David’s autism and Jason’s use of a wheelchair are frequently mentioned and remain important to the plot, Jason’s specific disability is never brought up. David routinely has to go to occupational therapy, which is how Catherine knows Jason, who is non-verbal and uses a wheelchair. Rules is narrated by twelve-year-old Catherine, who does not have a disability herself but has a younger autistic brother, David. ![]() ![]() ![]() But I do LOVE LOVE podcasts in books, especially thriller/mystery books as it definitely adds something to the story. My ADHD just doesn’t let me concentrate on things like that. I am not a fan of podcasts in real life, probably for the same reason as I am one to read audiobooks. My heart broke when we got the last piece of the puzzle. I loved her from the first page and she only got better with each new piece of information we get about her.Īt times we go back in time, 10 years, to the moment when the kidnapping happened. ![]() She is a strong character, or at least tries to be. To at least help out others because she couldn’t help Sibby. We see how that still affects her to the day and also that this is why she started the podcast. ![]() When she was a kid her best friend got kidnapped while she was there. A girl who had a very traumatic experience. Thankfully, between all the exciting parts there were also some moments to breathe. But boy this was a ride, I just couldn’t stop reading. In the end I managed to wait at least until October 1st as I wanted this one for Hallowtober. I was already looking forward to this book and so I was excited that I had the chance to read it early.
